AUSTRIAN NETHERLANDS. Margaret of Austria Silver Medal Electrotype, ND (ca. 18th-19th Centuries). ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
After Jacques Jonghelinck. Diameter: 58mm; Weight: 82.00 gms. Obverse: Bust of Margaret right, wearing elaborate dress and ruffled collar; Reverse: Allegorical female standing on a rock, facing left, wielding a sword in her right hand, a palm branch in her left; ship and city in distance at the far left, another below to the right; the four winds and stormy seas around her, perimeter legend. A great copy of a historic and alluring type from a famed sculptor and medalist. The satiny argent surfaces betray minimal wear on its extremely high points. The medal's toning serves to highlight the design features, and splashes of cerulean and gold abound as well. As would be expected, a seam is observed upon the edge.
