AUGUSTUS with AGRIPPA, 27 B.C.- A.D. 14. Gaul, Nemausus. AE Dupondius (13.05 gms), A.D. 10-14. NGC MS, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 4/5. Adjusted Flan.
RPC-I, 525; RIC-159-61; SNG Cop-700-1. Obverse: Heads of Agrippa, wearing combined rostral crown and laurel wreath, and Augustus, laureate, back to back; Reverse: Crocodile right, chained to palm frond with wreath at top with long ties to right; two palm fronds at base. A delightful and ever-popular provincial issue, this specimen presents Rome's first emperor along with his best friend (and son-in-law), the general Agrippa. Some adjustment flans are noted--highly typical of the emission.
