Fr. 1179. 1905 $20 Gold Certificate. PMG Fine 12.
One of the prized designs within any collection of United States Currency are these 1905 series $20 Gold Certificates. It is the first display of this long tenured basic design styling which ultimately carried over some features to the small size $20 notes from 1928 until 1995. The distinguishing features for this note when compared to the later 1906 and 1922 series notes is the use of red overprints and vivid gold under-prints. The note is so popular with collectors that it landed the number nine spot in the book "100 Greatest American Currency Notes," by Q. David Bowers and David M. Sundman. An evenly circulated piece that will be more affordable to the collector who craves wonderful types without five-figure price tags.
