1870 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. AU-55 (NGC).
A low mintage affair, the 1870 three-dollar gold piece saw only 3,500 stuck, making it a scarce issue overall for the series. Lightly circulated, you can tell the surfaces had a reflective, Prooflike luster when this example went into commercial channels. Today, hints of that reflectivity are seen within the protected areas of the devices. Well struck and devoid of any imperfections obtained in its time in circulation, this AU-55 is a nice collector grade for the issue.
