1843-C Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Large Date, Plain 4. Winter-1, the only known dies. AU Details--Cleaned (PCGS).
With plenty of bold striking detail and traces of remaining satin luster, this coin presents exceptionally well for a lightly circulated Charlotte Mint quarter eagle, even despite the stated qualifier of it's having been cleaned at one time. Softness of strike is confined to the centers, and it is anything but uncommon in a C-mint gold coin of any denomination or date. Predominantly green-gold in color, closer inspection reveals faint pale rose highlights that further add to the coin's appeal. Seemingly earmarked for inclusion in a budget minded mintmarked type set or Southern gold collection.
