1865 Gold Dollar. Unc Details--Scratch (PCGS).
Razor sharp in strike, this piece also offers warm deep gold patina and ample evidence of a prooflike finish from the dies. A mere 3,700 pieces were struck for the entire year at the Philadelphia Mint, and most of those were lost or melted long ago. A noticeable "x" was scratched into the reverse field to the right of the 1 of the denomination, otherwise, the surfaces are pleasing for this sought after, low mintage date.
