1881 Liberty Head Half Eagle. MS-64+ (PCGS).
Fully lustrous with delightful color in vivid golden-apricot. With 5,708,802 pieces produced, the 1881 is the highest mintage Liberty Head $5. Many examples were repatriated from foreign banks beginning in the mid 20th century, providing thousands of Mint State coins. However, most have significant marks and other signs of poor handling, limiting them MS-63 and lower grades. This above average example is sure to appeal to astute gold collectors.
