"1865" Andrew Johnson Indian Peace Medal. Bronze. First Size. Julian IP-40, Prucha-52, Musante GW-770, Baker-173X, var. (unlisted in this metallic composition). MS-64 BN (NGC).
76 mm. Warm, even golden-bronze patina is seen on both sides of this boldly defined and generally satiny example, although the fields reveal considerable prooflike reflectivity when tilted into a light. Both sides are nearly Gem with few blemishes of note, and none that are worrisome. This is the size of the Andrew Johnson Indian Peace medal that the Mint sold to most contemporary collectors, although the small size (62 mm) pieces were also offered on occasion.
