1795 Washington Grate Halfpenny. Musante GW-49, Baker-29B, W-10955. Large Buttons. Copper. Reeded Edge. MS-65 BN (NGC).
Warmly patinated in olive and autumn-brown with faded mint rose color still adhering to the protected areas around many of the design elements. This is a frosty and uncommonly well struck example with most design elements sharply to fully rendered. Several wispy blemishes in the left and right obverse field areas are mostly easily overlooked during in-hand viewing. This is a popular Conder token that has long since been "adopted" by American collectors who specialize in colonial and Washington-related coins. The older style NGC holder precludes viewing of the edge, so our Baker-29B is tentative without being able to confirm if the edge reeding slopes down or up to the right.
PCGS# 746. NGC ID: 2B7M.
