1662 Oak Tree Twopence. Noe-30, Salmon 1-A, W-240. Rarity-4. Small 2. EF-45 (PCGS).
11.3 grains. Glossy deep olive-gray with lighter high points and superb eye appeal. A lovely example, evenly struck with bold centers and peripheries, obverse aligned towards 6 o'clock as typical for the variety, some reverse lettering in northeast quadrant of die only partially on compact planchet. Planchet a trifle wavy, as struck, but not seriously so, tiny dent above the 2 in the date and another just below that digit, although the surfaces are far above average in terms of condition and visual appeal. A most desirable specimen of this unique denomination in the Massachusetts silver series, whose 1662 date represents the year the denomination was authorized.
PCGS# 17. NGC ID: 2ARD.
