1652 Oak Tree Sixpence. Noe-22, Salmon 2b-B, W-400. Rarity-5. IN on Obverse. Double Struck Obverse. Fine-12 (PCGS).
The obverse die was misaligned, and that side is struck approximately 25% off center to 5:30. Virgin planchet remains along the upper right border, closer inspection of the outer border beads in that area shows minor evidence for the Double Struck designation from PCGS. The letters ATHV and 75% of the inner border are boldest on the obverse, the tree softly struck and faint, other design elements off the flan. The reverse is well centered and bold aside from the letter W in NEW, which is indistinct. As well, the tops of the letters in GLA and ANO are off the flan. Slightly wavy, as usual for the Oak Tree series, and richly toned overall in deep steel-gray.
PCGS# 19. NGC ID: 2ARJ.
From the Muddy River Collection. Earlier from Heritage's CSNS Signature Auction of April 2016, lot 3002.
