SPAIN. Charles IV Proclamation Copper Medal, 1789. PCGS MS-62 Brown.
Herrera-98. Obverse: Radiant sunface; Reverse: 5-line inscription. Struck to proclaim Charles IV as King by the College of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Seville. Attractively made with sharp details and smooth chocolate surfaces. The College of Saint Thomas Aquinas was founded by Friar Diego de Deza of the Dominican branch of the Catholic Church in 1517. Originally, it was envisioned that its foundation would be laid in Salamanca, but ultimately it was moved to Seville when the strength of the city's theological institutions was questioned. For his efforts, Diego de Deza was given a bull by Pope Leo X.
