MEXICO. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1539)-oMo oFo. Mexico City Mint. Carlos & Johanna. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details.
KM-17; Cal-120; Nesmith-16. Weight: 11.33 gms. Early Series. A RARE example of this very brief assayer. While some surface damage is evident, likely from saltwater submersion, the assayer's initial can be clearly made out. Most other details are similarly well-presented, including the castles and lions and the central motto. A moderate gray tone minimizes the effect of the corrosion, making this coin highly presentable overall. A tempting exemplar for collectors missing this key piece in their cabinet of Mexican "Early Series" coinage.
