Republic of Texas treasury warrant paid out to James Kerr (1790 - 1850) a prominent early Texan settler and politician. Kerr served as Surveyor General of the Texas colony of Green DeWitt, later Kerr and his family to Brazoria a colony led by his friend Stephen F. Austin. In turn, Kerr became a prominent planter and active in public service both before and after Texas independence representing Jackson County in the Texas House of Representatives where he introduced antiduelling legislation and further legislation to make Austin the capitol.
