GERMANY. Empire. Erich von Falkenhayn Silver Medal, ND (1915). PCGS SPECIMEN-62.
Zetzmann-2096. Diameter: 33mm. By L. Chr. Lauer in Nuremberg. Obverse: Uniformed bust facing forward; Reverse: Knight on horseback left, holding sword and shield, legend in exergue. Demonstrating a very bold relief, the portrait engraving is quite articulate and expressive on this appealing WWI medal. General Erich von Falkenhayn was the Chief of the German General Staff from 1914 to 1916 and was one of the masterminds of the German war plan. He was removed after Verdun but continued to serve important roles throughout the war, later becoming an influential figure in Weimar Germany.
