GERMANY. Cologne. Inauguration of the Castle Chapel in Bonn Silver Medal, 1700. Joseph Klemens von Bayern. PCGS MS-63.
Weiler-1504. By D. J. Schel. Diameter: 31mm. Weight: 8.11g. Obverse: Crowned CIE (Joseph Clemens Episcopus) monogram of the bishop within laurel wreath, perimeter Latin legend; Reverse: Fourteen-line Latin legend within beaded border. Clemens had to rebuild his castle residence starting in 1697 as his other options had been damaged or destroyed in the wars with France. The chapel was quickly built, being consecrated on 20 July 1700. This example is virtually as-struck, with faults noted on both the obverse and reverse. Very rare.
