FRANCE. 5 Francs, Year 12-D (1803/4). Lyon Mint. Napoleon (as First Consul). NGC AU-55.
KM-659.1, Gad-577. A one-year-type struck at Lyon. Quite an appealing example that was likely stored face-down in a velvet cabinet for a lengthy period of time. The obverse is toned with antique silver gray, though when examined at an angle, bursts of sapphire and royal blue iridescence reveal themselves across the fields. The reverse exhibits brighter silver gray and some mottled russet along with blue coloration. Lustrous and well preserved, this example will tempt Napoleonic specialists.
