PERU. Wedding Anniversary of Calos and Andrea Southwell Silver Medal, 1893. NGC MS-65.
A delightful 8-pointed silver medal celebrating the 25th anniversary of the marriage of Carlos and Andrea Southwell in Lima. The Southwell's were an established family in Lima that included such members as famed Peruvian aviator Alfredo Salazar Southwell, who research indicates was likely the grandson of this coupling. A similar medal struck in 1884 and celebrating the birth of Maria Ynes Southwell also exists, indicating these silver medals were a family tradition. This piece demonstrates bright dove gray surfaces with olive-russet patina uplifted by aggressive brilliance in the fields.
