Ashland, Iowa. Farmers & Merchants Bank. 1857 $5. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
(Oakes 5-4) No. 952. Oct. 26, 1857. Imprint of Danforth, Wright & Co, New York & Philada. Central vignette of farmers herding cattle. Enormous "FIVE" and "5" protectors in bold red. The Farmers & Merchants Bank was a short-lived concern in the late 1850s. Although there has been a group of these selling recently, this and one other gem appear to be the cream of the crop.
