100 mm in length. 16.1 grams, approximately .800 fine. With brooch-backed hanger reading WEITZEL, with 50 mm dark red ribbon below, connecting to gold drop displaying the "square within a diamond within a square" pattern. The inner square is enameled in blue, the diamond shape in white and the outer square enameled in red. All have beautiful gold borders with tiny jeweled insets at the corners. An ornate outer frame surrounds. A most attractive and high-quality badge - collectible both for its connection with the Civil War as well as African-American history. The XXV Corps is noteworthy in that it was made up almost entirely of African-American troops. Under the command of Major General Godfrey Weitzel, the XXV Corps served with distinction during the waning days of the Petersburg Campaign. Its main noteworthy action was being the first command to occupy Richmond on April 3, 1865.
