1797 George Washington Presidency Resigned Medal. First Obverse - First Reverse. Musante GW-63, Baker-66. White Metal. Fine, Pierced, Scratched.
37.3 mm. 368.0 grains. Deep pewter gray with generally glossy surfaces and only a few scattered pesting eruptions noted. Numerous marks indicate some aggressive handling which fits such a piece that has clearly been worn as an adornment. Somewhat extensively scratched on both sides, but with rather good detail remaining. A rare issue. PCGS declined to certify this one, but it is certainly genuine.
From the Ken Beukelaer Collection of Washington Pieces. Earlier from Heritage's sale of February 2001, lot 7508, where it went unsold.
