CANADA. Duo of Silver Uniface Concept Design 10 Dollars Bonded Planchet Patterns (2 Pieces), "1976" (1975). Ottawa Mint. Both PCGS SPECIMEN-63.
Montreal Olympics. 1) Series V, Canoeing (Paddler), unfinished concept design. cf. KM-105 (for finished reverse design). Diameter: 45mm; Weight: 45.0 gms. Fineness; 0.450. 2) Series V, Swimmer, unfinished concept design. cf. KM-100 (for 5 Dollars finished reverse design). Diameter: 45.1mm; Weight: 44.9 gms. Fineness: 0.560 . Though these concept designs are similar to the issued coinage by Lynda Cooper, there are distinct and nuanced differences. Each with double planchet thickness, thicker font, less defined details and design shifts. The curvature of the water on the paddler are longer broader strokes extending nearly to the edge of the date and nearly touches the denomination. The wave pattern of the swimmer is similar to that of the issued 5 Dollar design, though slight alterations are noticed. Both are missing the athlete aspect of the design. Both are bright and offer a pleasing brushed satiny finish, the swimmer does display areas of light tone on both sides adding a bit of contrast. It is believed that this highly interesting and nicely matched pair are both UNIQUE. They offer good eye appeal with much remaining luster and are sure and added layer complexity to the next collection it enters.
