Redeemed 2013 Casascius 0.5 Bitcoin. Firstbits 124ULLgE. Series 2. Brass. MS-65 (ICG).
Redeemed and non-loaded. Nicely toned in pale golden-wheat shades with reflective satin luster near the borders. As a redeemed piece, the holographic sticker on the reverse has been peeled away and replaced, revealing the honey-comb pattern that serves as a security feature. The firstbits address remains visible at the center. A lesser-graded MS-64 (ICG) redeemed 0.5 BTC sold for $2,040 in our June 2022 sale. According to researcher Elias Ahonen, the Series 2 0.5 BTC were released on February 17th 2013 in response to the significant increase in the price of bitcoin, from around US$14 to around US$30, in just a few weeks. While a staggering increase in value at the time, bitcoin went on to achieve a high of around $68,000 in 2021. As such, these coins continue to be redeemed at a stead pace.
