1862-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-58 (NGC). CAC. S.S. Republic Label.
Three shipwreck recoveries have come to the forefront in recent times: the S.S. Central America, the S.S. Republic and the S.S. Brother Jonathan. These three treasure discoveries have provided many of the Type One double eagles available to collectors today. This example is partially lustrous and typically struck with only a trace of wear. A few light abrasions are noted, but this example is relatively free of blemishes. An important near-Mint offering.
