Description

1904 Liberty Head Half Eagle. JD-1, the only known dies. Rarity-4. Proof-62 (PCGS). CAC.
Mintage of 136 pieces for the year and all are rare today. These were struck in a semi-brilliant finish on the devices as opposed to the frosty, contrasting style of prior years before 1902. The fields are deeply mirrored by the highly polished dies and force of the strike. Moderate wipe lines and signs of small contact are noted on the surfaces when examined. All Proof gold from this period is rare today from the Philadelphia Mint, and this piece, while a bit less than perfect, is still desirable as it retains the bold visual statement that accompanies these exclusive Proof gold coins.
PCGS# 8499. NGC ID: 28DA.
PCGS Population: 8; 20 finer (some are likely resubmissions) (Proof-67 finest).

Estimate: $6900
