Description

1903 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. JD-1. Rarity-4+. Proof-62 (PCGS). CAC.
This premium specimen is fully struck with bright medium gold color to universally mirrored surfaces. Both sides are smoother in appearance than one might expect for the assigned grade. This late date issue has a relatively generous mintage of 197 coins for a Proof Liberty Head quarter eagle. Indeed, the 1903 is one of the more readily obtainable dates in this classic Proof gold series, the estimated population on the order of 100 to 130 coins (per John W. Dannreuther, 2018). In an absolute sense, of course, any coinage issue with no more than 130 examples known is rare, the present Proof at the uppermost reaches of the assigned grade level and worthy of strong bids.
PCGS# 7929. NGC ID: 288T.
From the Kohler Wisconsin Collection.

Estimate: $3150
