Full striking detail and smooth satin luster are noteworthy attributes in an example of a conditionally challenging Peace dollar issue such as the 1927-S. In addition to having a mintage of just 866,000 pieces, the 1927-S is rare in Gem Mint State due to a combination of striking deficiency and rough handling in government storage.
