Description

1796 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-65, B-5. Rarity-3-. Large Date, Small Letters. EF-45 (PCGS).
A peripherally toned example with vivid cobalt blue and reddish-gold iridescence engaging the obverse border. We note more reserved reddish-gold tinting around the reverse periphery, the balance of both sides in bright silver-gray. A well centered, overall boldly defined Choice EF with no sizeable marks, although accuracy compels us to mention light hairlining from numismatic handling. The Bowers-Borckardt 65 attribution corresponds to the Large Date, Small Letters Guide Book variety of the 1796 dollar. After BB-61, this is the most frequently encountered die marriage of the issue in today's market, making it popular with type collectors seeking an example of the challenging Draped Bust, Small Eagle design. Salyards Die State f.
PCGS# 40002. NGC ID: 24X3.
From the Legacy Collection.

Estimate: $8000
