Description

1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. O-108a, T-17. Rarity-4. Two Leaves. Fine-15 (NGC).
Attractive dove-gray surfaces with tinges of pale rose (obverse) and olive (reverse) evident as the coin rotates under a light. All major design elements are boldly outlined and fully appreciable, the eagle devoid of finer detail, but the recesses of Liberty's portrait retain appreciable sharpness. A touch of glossiness to the texture is noted for accuracy, but the toning is attractive, and the in hand appearance is impressively smooth at the assigned grade level. One of the scarcer attributions of the date, O-108a is challenging to find with problem free surfaces at any grade level. This attractive Choice Fine example will surely draw the attention of both type collectors and specialists. Tompkins Die Stage 2/2.
PCGS# 6052. NGC ID: 24E7.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection.

Estimate: $2500
