Description

1864 Two-Cent Piece. FS-401. Small Motto. MS-64 BN (PCGS). CAC.
Olive-brown toning overall with blushes of underlying mint color peering through in areas. Frosty luster is full, the strike is sharp in most areas including the horizontal and vertical line elements in the shield and the details of the wreath of grain encompassing the denomination on the reverse. The 1864 Small Motto ranks as a scarce one-year design type, and has long been considered one of the most desirable varieties in the two-cent piece series.
PCGS# 3579. NGC ID: 22N8.
From the Jerome S. Reznick Collection. Earlier from our (Bowers and Ruddy's) Collections of James A. Doolittle and Robert A. Russell sale, June 1977, lot 2341. Lot tag and collector tag with provenance notation included.

Estimate: $1600
