1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 60-p, W-5340. Rarity-4. Sprig Above Plow, PLURIBS. VF-25 (PCGS).
Frosty steely-copper surfaces are finely granular overall with microscopic pitting also evident on both sides, but we see no sizeable or otherwise individually mentionable marks. The impression is nicely centered on a large, round planchet, the detail bold where allowed by die state. This probably ranks below the Condition Census, which includes two AUs, an EF+, a VF+, and four VFs, but it remains a rather nice example of a Maris number that usually comes in low grade, badly flawed, or both. Die State 2, the obverse die failing in the left field and extending into the horse's mane. Scarcer than Die State 1.
PCGS# 512. NGC ID: 2B4R.
