Fr. 2130-J. 2006 $50 Federal Reserve Note. Kansas City. PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ. Solid Serial Number.
Perhaps once every other year we are lucky to receive a $50 solid serial number to put for sale. Today's sale contains four of these rare $50 solid serial numbers, with this monster sitting in a PMG 67 EPQ holder. This specific note was last sold by Lyn Knight as lot 1426 on 06-13-2016, over six years ago, at $3231. Collectors have come to realize over the past several years that you simply don't see solid serial numbered fifties very often and so have driven bid results up substantially at auction. On 02-14-2022 Goldbergs sold the Zeitmann Brothers Auction, which contained a $50 2004A GJ11111111A, Lot 57 in PCGS 65PPQ for $6300. If one looks at the monthly Bureau of Engraving and Printing Production Reports, you see that there are over 10 $1 and 10 $100 notes printed for every $50 denomination produced. We would not be surprised if this IJ11111111A residing in its PMG 67 EPQ holder, with only 3,200,000 total notes printed, hammered in excess of our high bid range in today's auction.
