POLAND. King Stanislaw August Rescued from Abduction Silver Medal, 1771. PCGS MS-62.
H-Cz-3124; Racz-520. By: I.L. Oexlein. Obverse: Two half-naked Furies attack the King outside the city as the hand of God protects him; Reverse: Providence escorts King Stanislaw August Poniatowski through the city streets as two female citizens kneel. This most beautiful medal provides a very intriguing historical representative of Stanislaw's kidnapping and subsequent escape by Bar Confederates in 1770. This example is exquisite, with the rich detail being well impressed on the flan. Soft luster is retained under dusky toning, and much allure and appeal remains.
