Description

IRAN. Duo of Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi Uniface Medals, ND (ca. 1967). VIRTUALLY AS MADE.
cf. Elsen 145, lot 2454 (for another example in bronze); cf. St. James's 46, lot 340 (for the corresponding portrait medal of the Shah). By R. Cliquet for Fisch Fonson. Obverse: Diademed bust right; Reverse: Blank. 1) Bronze. Diameter: 70mm; Weight: 159.78 gms. Edge : FISCH FONSON. 2) Plastic (bakelite?) with green coloring. Diameter: 72mm; Weight: 42.78 gms. Edge : Slightly beveled, but otherwise plain. An interesting and elegantly engraved portrait medal that was issued as a two piece set with a left-facing military bust of the Shah, this lot features the regular issue in bronze, already quite RARE and impressive, along with what appears to be an experimental example in green-painted plastic. A great pairing, and a tremendous opportunity for the advanced collector of Persian medallic art.

Estimate: $800.00- $1200.00
