GERMANY. Pfalz. Gulden (1/2 Taler), 1746-S (in chronogram). Mannheim Mint. Karl Theodor. PCGS AU-58.
Dav-Unlisted; KM-341. The "Homage of Heidelberg" type, this minor presents a very interesting reverse, in that it not only features a delightful veduta of Heidelberg, complete with Heidelberg Castle, but also a zodiacal aspect, with the constellation Leo eclipsing the radiant sun above. Light gray hues yield to more alluring aspects of cobalt, violet, and burgundy, making this a highly attractive minor or semi-medallic striking.
From the Collection of Richard Evans Norton (1872-1946).
