Fayetteville, North Carolina. $2 1875. Fr. 390. The Fayetteville NB. Charter #1756. PMG Very Good 10.
The Fayetteville National Bank was chartered four days before Christmas Day in 1870, and issued $293,940 before liquidating on New Year's Eve 1887. In 1910, a scant $1,420 was reported as outstanding on the bank. Around 10 notes are reported to exist from the bank, with this note not appearing in Track & Price's census however it does appear in the National Bank Note Census. The last time a Lazy Deuce appeared at public auction from this issuer was in a 2010 sale, but it was part of a collection of North Carolina Nationals that went unsold. So, we are safe to say that this will be the first time a Lazy Deuce from this issuer has traded hands in public auction as its own lot. According to the National Bank Note Census for the entire state of North Carolina, Original and 1875 series considered, only nine Lazy Deuces are available to collectors from the state. The note itself has seen circulation yet still retains legible penned signatures and appealing red ink of the overprints. A rarity which should not be passed up, and is sure to command a hefty premium. PMG comments "Restoration".
