Description

Lakeport, New Hampshire. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 472. The NB. Charter #4740. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
This note will pair nicely with the $10 Brown Back we are offering from the same issuer in the next lot. Previously, just a single $5 Brown Back was reported to exist from this bank, as found in Track & Price, which we sold in our March 2002 sale for a staggering $25,300! In fact, the example we sold in 2002 was the last time a note from the Brown Back series traded hands at public auction according to T&P. This newly reported note is in an attractive mid-grade and displays well inked penned signatures and broad margins. The ink tones are nice for the assigned grade, and this note is sure to attract spirited bidding.
From the Cartwright Collection.

Estimate: $2500.00- $3500.00
