Fr. 294. 1886 $10 Silver Certificate. PMG About Uncirculated 50.
The Tombstone Note has been a beloved favorite among collectors for a long time. Enclosed within a tombstone-shaped frame is the portrait of Thomas A. Hendricks, who served as the vice president of the United States under Grover Cleveland's first administration. He held the position from March 4, 1885, until his untimely death on November 25, 1885. It is likely that during the conceptualization of the Series of 1886 Silver Certificates, Hendricks' recent passing was still fresh in people's minds, and President Cleveland approved the decision to honor his late vice president posthumously. The presently offered examples offers bright paper and excellent appeal of the design for the assigned grade.
