Description

SC-153. South Carolina. February 8, 1779. $40. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
No. 1437. Signed by W. Morgan, E. Trescot and G. Cooke. The finer of only two uncirculated examples of this rare issue graded by PMG. Originally, only the $40, $60, $80 and $100 denominations were issued, but later the $50, $70 and $90 denominations were added. Those are most often seen today, with the first issue being elusive. With a printing of only 2,000 notes, this $40 is the toughest to find. This outstanding example boasts three very large margins, absolutely unimprovable print quality and three sharp signatures. The vignette on the back is the work of Thomas Coram of Charleston, and is exquisitely reproduced. This note combines rarity, condition and an impressive pedigree and is certain to attract substantial interest from the collecting community. Ex: F.C.C. Boyd / Ford. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.
From the Mid-Continent Collection.

Estimate: $6000.00- $8000.00
