Description

CALIGULA, A.D. 37-41. AE As (10.75 gms), Rome Mint, A.D. 37-38. NGC Ch VF★, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5.
RIC-38. Obverse: Bare head left; Reverse: Vesta seated left on ornamental throne, holding patera and scepter. A stunning survivor, this supremely elegant and attractive example presents deep forest green surfaces that yield to some lighter deposits further highlighting the devices. Meanwhile, great overall detail remains on this well centered strike, with a particularly strong rendition of this infamous emperor, fourth in the list of the "twelve Caesars."
From the George Henry Carman Collection.

Estimate: $1000.00- $2000.00
