1723 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 4.14-Fb.1, W-13470. Rarity-3. MS-62 BN (PCGS).
117.0 grains. A pretty Mint State example with fantastic provenance. Lustrous brown surfaces with hints of mint red and steel-blue overtones. Planchet lamination along the bust line, otherwise choice surfaces. Boldly struck on a slightly broad planchet with full dentil borders. Pedigreed back to the 19th century, this was lot 555 in New York Coin & Stamp Co.'s (David Proskey and Harlan Page Smith) June 1899 sale of the "Richard" Collection, where it was described as "uncirculated, bright; thin scale of copper flaked off bust."
PCGS# 921594.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier from New York Coin & Stamp Co's June 1899 sale of the "Richard" Collection, lot 555; Hillyer Ryder; F.C.C. Boyd; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part 7, January 2005, lot 41.
