Description

1875-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-61 (NGC).
Sharply struck in the centers with bountiful mint frost, both sides are further adorned with vivid rose-orange color that further enhances already strong eye appeal. The San Francisco Mint turned out 1,230,000 double eagles in 1875. Some of this mintage was sent overseas and later many lower range Mint State examples of the date were returned to the United States. Perhaps 1,000 to 1,500 Uncirculated examples exist, most of which grade no finer than MS-61, at which level this issue enjoys particularly strong demand for Mint State gold type purposes.
PCGS# 8975. NGC ID: 26AU.

Estimate: $3000
