Description

1870 Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-58 (NGC). OH.
This vivid rose-gold example is a hair's breadth away from Mint State. Near-fully lustrous with a frosty finish, both sides also sport razor sharp striking detail. Just 155,150 circulation strike double eagles of this date and mint were produced and many of these were sent overseas in later years, by which time they were worn. While EF and low end AU coins are readily obtainable in the context of the Type II Liberty Head series, Uncirculated examples are rare and seldom offered. Nearly as rare are premium Choice About Uncirculated examples, as here. An impressive piece worthy of a premium bid.
PCGS# 8957. NGC ID: 26A7.

Estimate: $7500
