Description

Dover, Pennsylvania. $20 1929 Ty. 2. Fr. 1802-2. Dover NB. Charter #14049. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
This note will be the third example to come forth publicly from this York County issuer, and the first $20 known to collectors, according to Track & Price. T&P also reports that the last time a note from this bank traded hands at public auction was in 2004! This new discovery will surely satisfy any Pennsylvania collectors desires, as this charter is surely missing from most collections. This mid-grade note offers broad margins and good eye appeal for the assigned grade, and it beats out the other two reported notes in T&P's census (a Fine 12 and Fine 15). The Dover National Bank was a late comer into the National Banking scene, having been chartered in March of 1934 (well into the Great Depression). Just $10,400 was issued before the National Banking era came to a close in 1935. Only Type 2 $10's and $20's were issued by this bank, with this being the first $20 to come forward. The population of Dover during the 1920s and 30s was around 600 persons (today it is around 1,900), so given the low population and small amount of currency issued, we cannot imagine many pieces were saved from this issuer.

Estimate: $5000.00- $7000.00
