Description

Fr. 1225e. 1900 $10,000 Gold Certificate. PMG Very Fine 20. First Napier-McClung Serial Number.
An extremely scarce uniface note with only 19 listed on the Track and Price census in all grades. Issued to the First National Bank of New York, NY as stamped on the face, and stamped in purple on the back by the New York Clearing House Association and signed below. Stamped "PAID" and dated Sep 10, 1912 at lower right. PMG notes the serial number "K18001" as the first Napier-McClung note issued making this note essentially a "number one" example. PMG notes "Tear Repair, Pinholes" and the note has normally seen damp staining from a 1935 Post Office fire in Washington, D.C. Despite a few problems, which are entirely typical for this issue, the color remains relatively vibrant and unfaded, and the note presents better than one might expect. Certainly a rare opportunity for the high denomination enthusiast. Formerly in the collections of Doug Murray and Mike Coltrane. PMG comments "Cancelled, Tear Repair, Pinholes".

Estimate: $3000.00- $5000.00
