Fr. 1217. 1922 $500 Gold Certificate. PMG Very Fine 25.
With only 65 notes of this important high-denomination Gold type note showing on the Census, a new addition is certainly a milestone event. Stack's Bowers is proud to offer a previously unaccounted example of the Series 1922 $500 Gold Certificate. Graded VF 25 by PMG, it is essentially a problem-free note, displaying light to moderate wear from circulation. The margins are full and generous, the paper is lightly toned to a mellow off-white color, the red Treasury seal is bold and vibrant and Lincoln's portrait appears deep and rich. All four corners are full with only the very slightest rounding noted on the upper left corner. No uncirculated specimens are known, and the grades from Fine 12 through AU 58 are fairly evenly distributed placing this note around the middle of the range of available notes. There are a few trivial pinholes (noted by PMG on the back of the holder) but for someone seeking a pleasing, middle grade and problem-free example of this rare denomination, it would be difficult to surpass this note. PMG comments "Pinholes".
