Gold Certificates of the $50 denomination begin with the Series of 1882. Depicted on the face is Silas Wright, a United States senator and later governor of New York. The face has "GOLD" in a yellow-gold overprint at top and a gold background to the serial numbers. Backed by gold coin, repayable to the bearer on demand. The back design is printed in an orange-gold color, and depicts an Bald Eagle at right and a die counter at left.
