T-6. Confederate Currency. 1861 $50. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Plate B. No. 2688. Imprint of Southern Bank Note Company. Green panel protector and L counters. Center, Pallas and Ceres seated on cotton bale. Left, Justice holding scales. Right, Portrait of George Washington. This is a gorgeous, fully framed example that was obviously saved for safekeeping, as this was an interest bearing note like the earlier five types. Signed by the Actual Register, John Tyler, son of President John Tyler, at left, and Actual Treasurer Edward Elmore. Fewer than 5,800 notes of this type were issued. This PMG 66 EPQ is the only one so-graded by PMG, with none finer, making this quite possibly the finest example of this type known. Exquisite white paper, dark and rich green overprints with a few red fibers noticeable underneath the left counter. Endorsed on the back "Paid out Sept 20, 1861". Certainly a prize for the advanced collector of Confederate Currency and a highlight of this offering. Ex. Eric P. Newman. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.
From the Mid-Continent Collection.
