Description

CC-99. Continental Currency. January 14, 1779. $60. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
No. 51380. Signed by L. Sprogell and J. Lawrence. Printed by Hall and Sellers, 1779. Soaring inflation necessitated ever higher denominations, and the final issue of January 1779 saw 11 of the 16 denominations issued with a face value of $20 or higher. The earth at center of the emblem- "DEUS REGNAT EXULTET TERRA" (God reigns, let the earth rejoice) with a red-inked square at center. This full-margined $60 note sits atop the PMG census along with one other and sports every attribute one could expect from a Gem-grade including sharp and clear signatures and serial number, virtually flawless paper, nearly ideal inking bringing out every detail of the design and fantastic eye-appeal. Beautifully-centered "CONFEDERATION" watermark. PMG Pop 2/None Finer.
From the Mid-Continent Collection.

Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
