1868 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Proof-64+ (PCGS).
This richly toned example is dressed in blended halos of steel-blue, deep mauve and reddish-gold that yield to circular areas of brilliance in the centers. Fully struck and smooth in hand, there is not much separating this PQ specimen from a Gem rating. The Proof 1868 half dollar is a particularly desirable issue at the higher levels of numismatic preservation. While approximately 500 of the 600 pieces struck are believed extant, few grade finer than basal Proof-64. This is one of the nicest, most vivid examples that we have offered in recent years.
PCGS# 6426. NGC ID: 27U3.
PCGS Population: 3; 20 finer in this category (Proof-66 finest).
